So, I haven't even been out of school for a month, and technically this is my first "real" week off between subbing and wedding stuff with Brandon's family, but seriously, I need to get some paint on my hands fast.
Our first summer in our home was insane. We closed escrow June 10th and got our key in the evening... So, that night we started pulling staples and stripping tape--- for those of you who don't get what I'm talking about, let's take a trip down memory lane to the very first post--- you'll get some handy information about growing pot as well... you know, as a bonus. I had so much fun that summer and I only crawled into a closet and cried once (yes, I really did when I had a HUGE problem with some paint stripper that frustrated me to tears). But, it's a pretty fun summer when you get to tackle all your DIY projects in a bikini...

We stayed busy and had a lot of motivation as we could see things make huge improvements, like when we painted our ENTIRE interior, I'm talking walls, ceilings, trim, closets, etc., in under three days. Yeah, we had our butts in gear! The picture speaks for itself:

Then, school started again, money thinned out, and we would have to take it easy here and there. We also had a new roommate who we wanted to respect so we cooled our jets in a sense to let him realize that these crazy people covered in primer and paint were actually pretty normal... well, sort of normal.
See, we must have not been too weird since he would hang out with us sometimes...On a side note, Garrett just graduated with his degree in Mechanical Engineering and is off to start his master's in San Diego, so we said goodbye in early May and his room has currently been taken over with wedding stuff... but don't you worry... We are trying to coerce Brandon's little sister into moving in this fall... after all, we need someone who can handle Moe, our soon-to-be-no-longer-imaginary Saint Bernard, that we will be bringing home hopefully by November! Plus it would be fun to have Emily around-- she's clean, quiet, and respectful-- and there's no worries about having another woman in the house when it's your man's sister... you know what I mean.
Ok, back to the post. I'm enjoying this babbling nonsense too much!
Anyway, last summer I graduated college and I was home so much more than I thought I would be. I ran around like a wild woman looking for things to do around the house in an endless battle against boredom since I get bored REALLY easily-- seriously, it's bad... So, I did things like paint the front door, spruce up the spare bedroom (I might try to take it even further this summer), and remodel my closet into a craft room.

So, here we are on June 10th, 2011. It's been two years and the list of things we have accomplished would take a ridiculous amount of time to write out, but you can catch a glimpse here.
Gotta admit, it feels damn good.
This summer, I still plan on catching up on some of my goals I set for this year, but I have to admit it feels pretty good to just have nothing to do for a bit. It's like I'm finally back to myself, like I want to do things again, I want to have friends over, have some fun, and let my creative side run wild. For a while there, it was just like a big road-block stood in front of everything fun, it was just work, school, laundry and chores... and of course, there is still wedding planning in between, but I went from being WAY ahead of schedule to WAAAAYYYYY behind, but now it's coming along just fine! I'm really looking forward to this fall when we say our vows, head out on a relaxing honeymoon, and then settle into married life.
So, how about you? Does summer bring you a sense of relief and freedom or is it a busy time of year for you?
