So, my latest Better Homes and Gardens magazine came with a little "50 Updates under $50" section and it got me thinking... "hmmmmm.... I really want to re-do our wall collage". You see, on the list they had "Painting a corbel" marked as a simple upgrade to make any wall decor stand out. I thought that was pretty cool as-is, but I also realized I did not own a corbel, nor had I remembered ever really seeing one... That is, until the next morning...I woke up early last Saturday, hopped on my bike, and cruised around to the neighborhood yard sales.

SO. Stinkin'. Fun.
Anyway, I digress. I walked up to one and I spotted this beauty lying on its side on the grass.

It's amazing what you can find once you start looking for it! So, I picked up the big piece of ceramic beauty and asked, "How much?".
The response: 50 cents!
I tried to conceal my excitement, but I was just so excited that I nearly squealed. I knew my boring wall of just photos, the one that we jokingly refer to as "The Wall of Caitlin and Brandon", would forever change from this:
To this:

I just kind of started with reckless abandon, moving, rearranging, swapping out fabric mats, and nailing new holes in the wall. I ran to Micheal's Craft Store and found the sign that says "Cherish" for $2.00. Honestly, it could have said "Poop" or something to that caliber on it and I would have still hung it up because the colors were perfect... but let's just agree that "Cherish" is a better saying.

I also grabbed some vase fillers to add some texture to the wall and of course I put a sweet little blue bird on my corbel. I'd love to make a "put a bird on it" joke, but Young House Love already hit that joke yesterday haha. Oh well. Here you go for all my fellow Portlandia fans.
A few mementos tucked into frames help break up the photos. I used movie stubs from our first dates and also fortunes from Chinese food.
Little known fact: We used to always go out for Chinese food on our dates.
Oh yeah, and I moved the sofa. I'm following in my mom's furniture rearranging footsteps!

And, just for good measure, a few more gratuitous shots of the wall.

Ta da! There you have it. Our finished wall. See, I told Brandon we need a new project... otherwise lots of other seemingly-finished things are going to change!

Love the transformation. It gives so much more depth to the space. Hooray for garage sales:)
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome! I agree- yard sales are so much fun... especially when you're crafty and can turn junk into something awesome! I love doing that!
