While still caught up in our bathroom remodel, I thought I'd stop to recap 2010 and look forward into what is to come in the new year.
This last year brought so many new things:
This last year brought so many new things:
- Three sets of our good friends got married (Daniel & Allie) (Bailee & JJ) (Justin & Kelsey)
- Seven sets of our friends got engaged (I think?)
- WE got engaged
- I switched jobs and I'm now at my home on weekends (although I still work at my old one from time to time)
- I graduated college with a B.A. is Psychology and got into the M.S. Counseling program
- I developed tendinitis and had to spend 6 weeks in physical therapy (one more reason I am realizing that I am SO ready to no-longer be a waitress)
- We remodeled and replanted our back-yard (but it's a disaster right now with all this central Cali rain!)
- We painted our exterior and added shutters
- I used a condenser coil off a refrigerator for decor
- We DIYed a Pottery Barn inspired chandelier (and posted the full tutorial)
- I tried my hands at forcing bulbs-- and now I'm addicted
- I thrifted my little heart out and have gotten some serious progress towards designing our DIY vintage wedding
- We set a date 10-8-2011
- Brandon started smoking pot... just kidding... but he made a smoker out of a terracotta pot and mastered smoking meat!
- We booked a venue
- We booked our photographer
- I bought my wedding gown
- We fostered 3 kittens and bottle fed them until they could be placed in homes
- We started a HUGE pile of boxes in the attic filled with vintage finds for the wedding
- I spent three months with Bronchitis
- We had 10,418 hits on our blog in ONE day after being featured on The Lettered Cottage
- We were featured on my favorite blog, Young House Love
- I updated our spare bedroom and spare closet
- Our peach tree produced some amazing fruit
- We started renovating our spare bathroom
It has been a busy year for us. As always, there are ups and downs, but all in all, 2010 was a good year. However, 2011 seems more promising.
As I look forward into the new year there will be some huge changes:
1.) We will be getting married 10-8-2011! Lots to do! Lots to plan! YAY!
2.) We will be hopefully expanding our furry family by adding a Saint Bernard to the mix. We always said we would get one after we get married, and, after seven years, we are so ready... now, we just need an endless supply of dog food and a bigger fence!
3.) I am so ready to get a day job. It's not that I necessarily dislike serving. I love interacting with people, and I wouldn't mind still working occasionally as a waitress, but as far as doing it each weekend up to five nights a week, I'm over it. My body can't take it (tendinitis) and my mind is so tired of it (stress, lack of sleep, procrastination, etc.). I realized that I worked almost EVERY holiday this year including my birthday, and the only holiday that I was able to celebrate without work was Christmas day itself. I'm done. Grown up job (or at least day job) here I come!
4.) We will see many of our friends and family get married. We couldn't possibly be happier
5.) We will finish our first bathroom remodel (hopefully this month!)
6.) We will tackle our kitchen and master bath this year-- time to get out the big guns
7.) We are going to try to spend less, save more, and prepare for rainy days. We realized that we have very little in savings and we would like to start putting more away just in case. Additionally, we are turning our attention to more "grown up" things such as retirement funds and life insurance... gulp.
8.) I am determined to get my weekends back (which is why I will get a day job)
9.) I will be in the master's program for Marriage and Family Therapy and I hope to start an internship between school, work, and renovating. Lord help me.
10.) I will get organized- Our home is pretty clean unless we are in the middle of a big project, but slowly and surely little things start to get messy. I plan on a big spring cleaning overhaul to get rid of what we no longer need, want, or use, and can hopefully restore order to the little hideaways that get so messy.
11.) I would like to read more. I just started The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, and it's so refreshing to have a little time just to myself.
12.) I hope to get back in the gym. Before the tendinitis started in early September, I was doing pretty well. Time to get back on the wagon. Plus, my friend is a new yoga instructor at school-- all the more reason to go!
13.) I want to REALLY start using my camera. No, I don't mean taking pictures on auto like I usually do. I mean reading my manuals, using it the way it is meant to be used, and taking more photos. Perhaps I might even start up a little side business? We'll see.
14.) I want to eat healthier. Granted, I am slim, I don't eat fast food, and I am pretty active, but trust me, that sweet tooth is going to kill me one of these days!
15.) I want to spend more time with my friends and family. After working weekends for three years straight, I really hope to have the time to start actually traveling more this year-- even if it's just to go camping.
So how about you? Any ambitious plans for the next year? Are you making some big changes as well?
