Trash to treasure!

Ok, I'll admit it, this isn't my first time digging through the trash... remember this post?

But today I wasn't trying to find something in the trash.

You see, I had driven down to the ReStore where they offer used household items such as doors, windows, bathtubs, and tile, in hopes of finding an old, tattered, window for my reading corner in our master bedroom, but they didn't have quite what I was thinking of.

I asked a gentleman for some help and he led me around looking for more windows out back. Then I spotted it! It was in a orange crate full of garbage. I stopped, then I looked at the guy and said, "is that trash?" with excitement. Looking a little confused, he said, "Um, yeah", and I looked back and said, "Can I have it?". He laughed saying I could, but then he looked at me and said, "Do you know what it is?". It was in this moment I realized I DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE what it was, but I knew I wasn't leaving without it!

Turns out it was a condenser that goes on the back of refrigerators! Ha! If only Frigidaire new the plans I had for this baby! I told the gentleman I planned to use it for decor and he laughed saying I'll have to bring in "after" photos and that the ReStore could use more people like me.

I brought it home (along with an old window screen for $1.80 to be featured in a later post!) and I was so excited I didn't even put down my keys as I ran to our bedroom.

You see, I hadn't really been thrilled with the look above our bed with just the three frames, but I didn't really want a headboard since our bed is a homemade frame that has such a low profile... Now, are you ready to see what we did and how we did it?

Here you go:

1.) Get your handyman (aka boyfriend), a power-drill, and some screws...

2.) Arrange frames where you'd like them and arrange condenser on top. Drill guide holes into frames before screwing into place.

3.) Make sure you are happy with it before hanging!

4.) Screw four screws into the studs to make sure it wont fall on your head! Then use a sharpie to color over the heads of the screws.

5.) Stand back and admire your FREE and totally "green" decor!
---I apologize for the fuzzy pics, but we were losing sunlight and I was too excited to not post this ASAP!---

  6. Hi - what is the name of your wall color?

It's exactly what I am looking for in my living room and we are having an... *AHEM*.... ISSUE with paint right now (as in our walls turned out bouncing baby boy blue, NOT the beautiful blue-grey we had thought we picked.

  14. Thanks for sharing the colors! I was just at a friends house and loved her robin's egg blue on her walls. It turned out to be Blue Shamrock! I'm going to have to go look at the paint sample. I'm having a hard time finding the perfect muted robin's egg blue (more blue than green). Any suggestions??? You should see my dining room wall with it's dozens of shades of blue. Yikes!

    Thanks

  15. To be honest, I would go the same route you have with the sample colors. We brought in a pillow from my old bedspread and asked the person at the paint counter to find a chip that matched. Typically, finding a piece of fabric of art that you can draw the exact color match from is easier than just trying to pick a color :-)

    hope that helps!
